INTRODUCTION
Every year The Royal Canadian Legion encourages young people to learn about Canada’s military history through artistic expression. Students are invited to create Remembrance posters, essays and poems in honour of Canadian accomplishment, valour and sacrifice, past and present. The amazing creative artistry of young Canadians is impressive and outstanding.
COMPETITIVE CATEGORIES- POSTER/ ESSAY/ POETRY
- Primary (Poster Contest Only) Grades 1,2,3
- Junior (All Categories) Grades 4,5,6
- Intermediate (All Categories) Grades 7,8,9
- Senior (All Categories) Grades 10,11,12
JUDGING
Initial judging takes place at the community level by Legionnaires at the Legion Branch. Winning entries then proceed to judging at the Provincial level by BC/Yukon Command. The winning entries at this level then proceed to the national level at Dominion Command. The names and woks of all winners are published on BC/Yukon Command's Website and the Dominion Website.
NATIONAL RECOGNITION
Poster, Essay and Poetry winning entries are displayed at the Canadian War Museum from July 1 to May 1 of the following year.
Provincial Winners are invited to Victoria to represent Canada’s Youth at the annual Remembrance Day Ceremony, November 11th.
National Winners are invited to Ottawa to represent Canada’s Youth at the annual Remembrance Day Ceremony, November 11th.
