Youth & Families

Youth & Families is an important part of the Legion Foundation's giving plans. Here are just a few examples of how the Legion Foundation is making a difference in your community:

Spinoza Bear Program:

When life-threatening illnesses strike children, the quest for small comforts becomes a prominent force for all those touched by the child's life. The Spinoza Bear Program provides children 3-10 years of age who are suffering from illness or tragic circumstances with the comfort of a “new friend”.

Spinoza is a therapeutic, talking bear that, through a hidden speaker and CD player, tells stories and sings songs to help children deal with pain, fear and anxiety related to an illness, disability or trauma.

Each year, in BC, hundreds of Spinoza Talking Bears are given to children identified by health care professionals through agencies such as BC Children's Hospital, CNIB, Ronald McDonald House, Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and others.

The Legion Foundation administers the Spinoza Bear program in C.
